Bangladesh is one of the world’s most densely populated countries; home for 164 million people in an area the size of Illinois. Economic inequality has increased, about 32 percent, i.e. 50 million people still live in extreme poverty. Compounded by corona pandemic & recurrent natural disasters, Bangladesh is struggling immensely with food insecurity. Its common to see homeless parents with children living in the streets. People who live from hand to mouth struggling hard now due to outbreak of corona virus. While we (to whom it applies) are blessed to stay home, with food for our families, millions of poor people are struggling to manage a meal for their families in Bangladesh.
We believe providing free sewing machines as well as three months of training will empower the women to create a stream of income for themselves and their families.
Many households are devastated by poverty and unemployment in Bangladesh. Women, especially those who are the heads of their households, are often among the poorest of the poor in Bangladesh. Women have few opportunities to earn income and are often discriminated against in the workforce. A small amount of money and proper tools can help these women start a small business and help them survive on a monthly basis. Bangladesh has a large textile industry and stitching garments is one job that is still valued and needed in Bangladesh. By providing women in need with sewing machines and training we can empower them to support themselves. Each sewing machine costs $125, and training costs $50. Your generous donation will help change a life and provide bright futures for the impoverished. Every bit counts!
The high unemployment rate in Bangladesh further perpetuates a poor economy, which also robs children of the opportunity to make a living. We provide the youth with the opportunity to be trained in areas such as basic education, typing and design. Education paves the way to a brighter future for these children, and with our programs they will have the ability to be employed in a more established career where they can begin their lives smoothly and support their families financially.
We have been making an effort to assist with their urgent need of clothes and blankets to keep themselves and their families warm which is only possible due to your generosity.
The Rohingya people left everything behind and came to Bangladesh with nothing except the clothes on their backs and thus it is a common sight to see children wear worn down clothing that barely serves the purpose. They cannot experience anything close to the comfort we feel in our homes because they have a hard floor for a bed, flimsy plastic for sheets and rags as blankets. We can never imagine a life like that for ourselves and our families, yet this is their everyday life. No comfort of a heater or air conditioning. They live solely in the mercy of nature.
There are currently more than 1 million Rohingya refugees living across 36 different locations in Cox’s Bazar area, in south-eastern Bangladesh. It is very challenging to acquire secure water sources for this massive population due to scarcity and overpopulation. These refugees fled to Bangladesh with nowhere else to go and now they are facing this huge problem. In all our facilities located within the Rohingya camps, including the learning centers and medical camps, we have been able to dig bore wells and provide clean and sanitized water thanks to your generosity. Water supplies are a major issue for impoverished families. In this part of Bangladesh, we experience a water crisis during the dry season – from end of November through April or May
The rural areas of Bangladesh are affected very much by weather changes and they are very vulnerable to natural calamities like floods. Without protection and strong foundations destruction ravages the homes and stores or the locality. Many goods and supplies and raw products like crops are lost in addition to all the casualties. These factors leave people feeble and in need of our help. A report from the Daily Dhaka Tribune as recent as 27 July, 2019 stated that 28 districts have been flooded in the month of July alone. To provide a helping hand to these people in need, we provided emergency flood relief to the victims of Gaibandha district in North Bengal for 5 days straight. Including necessities like healthy food and clean water Basmah Foundation team has distributed provisions to countless families and made a huge difference in these five days. However, this is not the end.
Doing nothing for others is the undoing of ourselves.
Don’t wait for someone else to do it. Hire yourself and start calling the shots.

If you’re a fundraiser that’s daunted by data you may be surprised how much you’re already using it. Every time you segment your database, draft your budget forecast, or analyse a campaign to see if it can be saved with a tweak (or it’s time to let go), you’re using data.
In our increasingly connected world, it’s easier than ever for organisations to share their mission and ask for support. And, while that’s a great thing, it also means that capturing the attention of donors, volunteers, and supporters is more of a challenge than it was before.
Smaller charities are the heart of communities across the UK that keep tummies full, families connected, and kids playing. And during the pandemic and continuous lockdowns, it was smaller charities that used their networks and reach to support people.
